New Organization Helps Fight Excessive Government SpendingOctober 2009 (Medialink) -
ANCHOR LEAD: Taxpayers in the private sector may be paying taxes that go to public employee benefits far richer than they get for themselves. But one enterprising man created a website that is fighting back. Bobbi Owens has more. (:57)
SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Bobbi Owens. There's a new effort to educate the public about possible excessive government spending. Jim MacDougald is the founder and chairman of The Free Enterprise Nation website.
CUT: (MacDougald) The Free Enterprise Nation is an organization formed to represent the interests of the private sectior. And it was formed when we learned that there's a huge pay disparity between people in the public sector and people who pay the taxes to support them.
SCRIPT: What's going on?
CUT: (MacDougald) Our tax dollars are going to provide public sector workers, public education and government workers with higher pay, better benefits, earlier retirement and higher retirement that anybody gets in the private sector. And we decided we'd put that information together and put it out on a website for everybody to see.
SCRIPT: What can be done?
CUT: (MacDougald) We need to educate people what's going on and how their tax dollars are being used, and we need to unify them to speak with one voice, so loud, elected officials will have to listen.
